Marvel Gets Showrunners For The Defenders

As Marvel’s Iron Fist is getting ready to start production, we are now also finally getting some information about the 5th Netflix series that will unite Danny Rand with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil in Marvel’s The Defenders.

Today Marvel and Netflix officially announced that Daredevil showrunners Douglas Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Orange is the New Black) have been tapped to run the upcoming superhero series with the four leading Netflix heroes.

Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, said this in a statement about the duo running the series.

“Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience”

Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television added with the following

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ speaks for itself. They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

Petrie and Ramirez also spoke about getting to come together for the BIG one in the first phase of Marvel/Netflix shows.

“This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story. We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”

The announcement also mentioned that Drew Goddard and Jeph Loeb will both be serving as Executive Producers on The Defenders which is being produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

Marvel’s The Defenders will bring together Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage/Power Man, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. The show is expected to start production at the end of the year.
