Netflix Officially Orders The Punisher Series

Fans of Hell’s Kitchen rejoice, Netflix has officially ordered a Punisher spin-off series!

The Punisher

With the gun-toting vigilante getting his own comic book drawn by artist Becky Cloonan as well as more focus on the famous anti-hero, this seems like a positive move and a perfect addition to the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel.  Jon Brenthal stars as Frank Castle, introduced as the Punisher in Daredevil Season 2 who brings his own lethal brand of justice to Hell’s Kitchen.

Writer and Executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will serve as showrunner.  Hannibal’s gritty yet artistic tone is a unique and exciting choice for Hell’s Kitchen.  Plus the familiarity with some harder subjects potentially means great things for future Frank Castle storylines.

The Punisher

Marvel’s The Punisher marks the sixth series ordered so far between Netflix and Marvel. With photos being released from Iron Fist, Luke Cage set to premiere on September 30th, and The Defenders filming later this year, the Hells Kitchen Universe is expanding. With the second season of Jessica Jones slated to begin filming after The Defenders the future has never looked brighter for the continued event programming of the Netflix Universe!

Punisher TV series was first reported by TV Line last summer. According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and Netflix are expected to announce the series later today.  Get caught up on “Who is the Punisher” with our Punisher Character Spotlight while we wait for the official news, and check out the first teaser image below!
