When Captain America: Civil War hits theaters Stateside in just about a month or so, we could potentially see our first major tie-in between the feature films and Netflix’s corner of the MCU with Marvel’s Luke Cage.
As reported by ComicBook.com, Disney, Marvel’s parent company, recently released the list of cast members, producers, writers, crew, and screenwriters who will be appearing and attending the Captain America: Civil War worldwide premier next week. In that list is Alfre Woodard, who was originally slated to make her first appearance in the MCU in Marvel’s Luke Cage, which premiers in the fall. Woodard is listed with the cast members appearing in the film.
Woodard is set to play Mariah Dillard in Marvel’s Luke Cage, one of the earliest villains in Marvel Comics.
Woodard’s apparent casting in Captain America: Civil War raises a few important questions. What character is Woodard playing? How big is her role in the film? Assuming Woodard is playing Mariah Dillard in both properties, how will her character serve to connect the feature films to the Netflix series? It does seem highly unlikely that Woodard would be cast as two different characters in two different properties that exist in the same universe, as there has yet to be precedent for such a casting in the MCU.
Also listed in the premiere announcement is comedian Jim Rash, best known for his role in the NBC hit Community.
