Mark Mothersbaugh To Score Thor: Ragnarok

Marvel Studios has consistently delivered hit after hit in the past few years, along with amazing scores for their films from composers like Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Tyler Bates, Patrick Doyle and Henry Jackman. Now former Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh is joining the fold to score Thor: Ragnarok.

This is an exciting development for the film as Mothersbaugh is no stranger to doing film scores. In recent years, he has worked on The Lego Movie, 21 & 22 Jump Street, Rushmore, Pitch Perfect 2, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist and more. On the television side, Mothersbaugh has done Rugrats, House of Lies, The Last Man on Earth among others. The style of his music, which tends to be odd yet quirky should fit perfectly with Director Taikia Waiti’s style and set the stage for a grand cosmic adventure.

While this development may sound out of left field, stop and think about this for a second. Originally Thor: Ragnarok was thought of being a darker story, given the subject matter it is based off of. In some circles, Taikia Waiti was hired to bring a sense of levity to the third film in the Thor franchise.

So far, he is bringing his trademark style to film via his posts on social media about the film and the widely praised mockumentary shown at SDCC 2016.

There’s also the 80’s inspired logo that was also revealed at SDCC shown below if you need a reminder. So far, it sounds like everything thing is lining up for this to film to be one of the strangest yet fantastic adventures in Phase 3 yet.
