BOX OFFICE: Thor: Ragnarok Off To Strong Start With $28M Overseas

Thor: Ragnarok is already setting records after swinging it’s hammer into ten markets overseas. The current estimated haul for the threequel’s first two days overseas is at $12.8M performing ahead of the likes of fellow Marvel Studios releases Doctor Strange and right around the same as Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. earlier this year. And it’s already setting records. The Taika Waititi directed film had the biggest October opening day of all-time in three markets: Korea, Taiwan and Indonesia.
The top opening markets for the film are currently the UK ($4.8M), Korea ($2.3M), France ($1.9M), Taiwan ($1.2M) and Indonesia ($900,000). Thor: Ragnarok will continue to roll out into roughly 52% of the international markets this weekend before hitting theaters both domestically as well as in both the Middle Kingdom and Japan next week.
UPDATE: After adding an additional 18 markets on Thursday, Thor: Ragnarok has now hammered up an early $28M overseas.  This include a number of industry-best October openings including Australia where the film started off with $2M including previews. Today the Marvel Studios releases hits screens in an additional 7 markets, so stay tuned for further updates.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.
