BOX OFFICE: Thor: Ragnarok Smashes Estimates With $109.1M Overseas Debut

While the film was initially projected to open up in the $85-100M range, Thor: Ragnarok has exceeded expectations and hammered up a hefty $107.6M debut overseas. The film launched in about 52% of the world this weekend ahead of it’s debut both domestically as well as in the Middle Kingdom and Japan, where it’s also expected to open huge as well. The Taika Waititi-helmed film is currently pacing 4% ahead of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and 22% above Doctor Strange with the biggest smarkets for the Marvel Studios release being the UK ($15.8M), Korea ($15.5M), Australia ($8.4M), Brazil ($8.3M) and France ($7.4M). In comparison to the the opening of 2013’s Thor: The Dark WorldRagnarok is currently 34% above the Alan Taylor directed film which went on to gross $644.6M worldwide.

UPDATE: Thor: Ragnarok actually came in ahead of the intial estimates with $109.1M which puts it about 6% ahead of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and 24% ahead of Doctor Strange. Stay tuned for further updates.
