Thor: Ragnarok Writer Hints At Possible Return Of Marvel One-Shots

Here’s a bit of possible news sure to make fans happy which have felt that Marvel Studios home video releases have been lacking in the special features department. If you’ve been missing the Marvel One-Shots, a group of short films that started with the home video release of Thor and were featured on all releases up until 2014’s Thor: The Dark World, might be returning according to Thor: Ragnarok writer Eric Pearson. Speaking with Cinemablend, the writer indicated that the program stopping has hurt the sales of Marvel Studios Blu-rays and there’s been chatter about bringing them back.

“I think probably the drop in Blu-ray sales has hurt the One-Shots program — though I’ve heard whispers of it starting up again. I can’t confirm that at all, but I’ve definitely heard whispers of it. And I have a whole folder full of other One-Shots that I just came up with. And I was like, ‘Oh, this will be a fun eight to 12 pages!’”

While the writer indicates that this is hardly a confirmation, the fact that there has been talk regarding the matter is encouraging. These shorts initially were looked at as a way for the the studio to explore lesser known properties but when cost came into play they decided to include them with the home video releases instead of putting them into theaters. The earliest of these shorts put Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson front and center more time and the Agent Carter short almost seemed to be a prequel to the two-season television series on ABC.

While these likely aren’t the most cost-effective things to shoot, the studio could see a slight uptick in Blu-Ray sales if they do decide to bring them back. Additionally, they could be used to make fans happy by finally bridging the film and television corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and bringing characters together across mediums.
