Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin Returning For Daredevil Season 3; New Showrunner Set

Hell’s Kitchen is getting its Kingpin back! Vincent D’Onofrio is officially set to reprise the role of Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin in the third season of Daredevil. Deadline, who broke the news, also revealed that Erik Oleson will be taking over as showrunner for Season 3.

Oleson is no stranger to superhero shows as he worked on CW’s Arrow in Season 3 as a writer and co-executive producer. Jeph Loeb, Marvel TV President, and executive producer spoke about D’Onofrio’s return and Oleson taking over as showrunner.

“Jeph Loeb: Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk. We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson.”

Season 3 of the hit Marvel drama will follow the events of The Defenders where Matt Murdock is now presumed dead. But as viewers saw at the end of the team-up series, Matt wakes up in a nunnery.

One of the nuns who was taking care of him asks a fellow sister to “Get Maggie. Tell her he is awake”. Fans of the comics will know “Maggie” as Maggie Murdock, Matt’s mother. No casting announcement has been made for Matt’s mom if she’s indeed showing up in Season 3.

D’Onofrio was last seen in the second season of Daredevil for a few episodes. It remains to be seen whether we’ll see the character back as a full-time cast member or as a recurring guest star.

Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2018.
