It looks like Luke Cage has met his match in the latest trailer for Season 2. In the footage, we see him face off with and get his butt kicked by a mysterious, new bulletproof villain called Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir).
Luke (Mike Colter) starts settling into his newfound celebrity status nicely before Bushmaster threatens to ruin everything (including, it seems, his relationship with Claire). According to a release from Marvel, “With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.” It doesn’t sound like protecting Harlem is going to be any easier this time around.
Season 1 favorite Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) also returns for this new season, vowing to become the Queen of Harlem with her associate Shades (Theo Rossi) by her side. Oh, and don’t forget a third villainous character has already been announced with Annabella Sciorra playing mob boss Rosalie Carbone. It’s no wonder the new poster shows Luke carrying the weight of Harlem on his back.
Good thing he has a great ally in Misty Knight (Simone Missick), who now has a bionic arm like her comic book counterpart following the events of The Defenders.
Luke Cage Season 2 premieres on June 22 on Netflix. Season 1 is currently available for streaming.
