Legion Announces Professor X Casting For Final Season

Today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour FX confirmed Legion will return for its third and final season in June 2019.

Show-runner Noah Hawley also revealed that Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones, Counterpart) joins the cast this season as David Haller’s father Professor X with Stephanie Corneliussen (Mr. Robot) as David’s mother Gabrielle.

Though it’s well known that Professor X/ Charles Xavier is the character’s father in the comics, and he’s been alluded to in the show, this would mark Professor X’s first live-action appearance on the small screen.

Given the age of the actors announced, it seems likely the characters will appear either through flashbacks or time travel. Why the latter? It was revealed during the panel today new character Switch (Lauren Tsai) has the ability to time travel and will become an ally of David (Dan Stevens).

Last season of Legion found series protagonist David grappling with his dark side. Hawley revealed that this season David will start a commune for others who are suffering, which is how he meets Switch.

Also returning this season is Aubrey Plaza who plays fan-favorite Lenny. While under the control of the Shadow King, Lenny often served as a villain. However Plaza told reporters at the TCA panel that the character gets a new start this season.

Legion stars Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Hamish Linklater, and Navid Negahban.
