Endgame Sets New Box Office Record

Avengers: Endgame dominated the box office this weekend, breaking several records including the largest domestic and global opening weekend at $350 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide.

Final numbers have not yet been released, but Endgame has already brought in almost $100 million more than previous domestic opening weekend record holder Avengers: Infinity War.

Box Office Mojo reports that Endgame accounted for 90% of this weekend’s box office total. Here are a few of the other records broken by the film in its opening weekend according to the site:

  • Largest Thursday Previews: $60 million (Previously $57 million for Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
  • Widest Opening: 4,662 theaters (Previously 4,529 theaters for Despicable Me 3)
  • Largest Friday, Opening Day and Single Day: $156.7 million
(Previously $119.1 million for Star Wars: The Force Awakens)

Given the past performance of MCU films, it seems likely the film will continue to draw in large audiences in the following weeks with many fans attending multiple viewings.

In addition to its commercial success, the film has a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, the second highest score for a Marvel film behind Black Panther.

Avengers: Endgame is the 22nd movie to be released by Marvel Studios.
