SDCC 2019 – Shang-Chi: Casting and title

Marvel made several announcements, on Satuday’s SDCC Hall H Panel, regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heading into phase four. Shang-Chi’s casting and title reveal was one of the announcements made by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios

The title role will be played by Simu Liu of Kim’s Convinence. Simu has also been a fan of Marvel and has been tweeting his interest in joining the MCU for a long while. Dreams really do come true!

Shang-Chi’s film debut will be titled: Shang-Chi and The Ten Rings. An official logo was released as well. Check out the tweet from Marvel:

Just announced in Hall H at #SDCC, Marvel Studios’ SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS, with Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. In theaters February 12, 2021. pic.twitter.com/WePmw8d5Gq— Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) July 21, 2019

Shang-Chi is the master of Kung-Fu and the best martial artist character in Marvel comics (in my personal opinion)! He’s a character, I’ve been hoping to see in live action since the announcement of Iron Fist’s Netflix show. I’m over the moon about Simu’s casting as well as a lot of people on Twitter. Shang-Chi will be the first Asian superhero to have their solo film in the MCU. Pretty exciting!

Shang-Chi And The Ten Rings will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton starting Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung as The Manadrian. The film punches it’s way into theaters February 12, 2021.
