The New Mutants Heads To Comic-Con at Home

The New Mutants are coming to Comic-Con. With another new trailer released, the film also announced a panel for Comic-Con @ Home on Thursday, July 23 at 2 PM PT.

The production has been more mysterious than the mutants themselves. After multiple rescheduled release dates, 2020 might finally see the release of Fox’s The New Mutants, the (technically) last mutant Fox film before Disney took the X-jet’s controls.

Fans of the film will remember that the introduction of a new mutant team was originally slated for a 2018 release. The film’s original release date was pushed back multiple times for everything from Deadpool 2 to rumored “reshoots.” (Director Josh Boone later confirmed that the film never underwent any reshoots.)

Fans might have a chance to ask some questions around the film’s mysterious production during the panel which will feature Boone along with stars Ana Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga, and Alice Braga.

The new trailer released with the announcement shows Magik’s trip into the limbo zone. Check it out below:

The film is currently still scheduled for an August 23 release date. With COVID-19 cases on the rise, however, it remains to be seen if the film will be released in time for August. Other studios have already begun pushing back releases including Warner Brother’s Tenet, which has been considered a bellwether for box office health.

Fans have suggested multiple times that the film should just be released on a streaming platform. Given the recent success of films like Palm Springs, The Old Guard, and of course Disney Plus’ own Hamilton, that may not be such a bad idea.

The future of The New Mutants remains to be seen, but perhaps Thursday will give fans the answers they need.
