According to a report from Deadline, Nia DaCosta will direct the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel. DaCosta also co-wrote and directed the upcoming Candyman sequel.
Star Brie Larson is set to return in the title role though no other cast members have been confirmed.
Disney and Marvel Studios have not commented on the story.
The film’s script is being written by Megan McDonnell, a staff writer on the upcoming Disney Plus series WandaVision.
WandaVision will feature an adult version of the character Monica Rambeau who appeared in the first Captain Marvel as a child. She will be played by actress Teyonah Parris and it seems a likely bet she will reprise her role in the film.
The yet to be titled Captain Marvel sequel is currently set for a July 2022 release.
