SDCC23 Interview: Harley Quinn the Animated Series

Vanessa and Keenon discuss Harley Quinn Season Four with the Supervising Producers

Harley Quinn the Animated Series season four premiered with three new episodes today on Max. In preparation for the upcoming season, Vanessa and Keenon, cohosts of the DC Studios Podcast, spoke with Cecilia Aranovich Hamilton and Ian Hamilton, supervising producers of the series. They discussed how Harlivy will navigate their relationships while navigating their new paths – Harley as the newest member of the Bat-family and Ivy as the new head of the Legion of Doom.

“Each one of them is trying to succeed in a different world. What we’re going to explore this season is how they navigate through the obstacles they are going to encounter,” C. A. Hamilton said.

They have taken Harley through a journey of self-discovery, leading her to a friendship with Barbara Gordon. This season she will build a connection with the entire Bat-family including her own Bat-inspired suit. How will she reconcile her relationship with Ivy and her “socially conscious brand of evil” with her new life as a…hero?

“Over the course of the season, you find out Harley Quinn is about being the hero for Harley Quinn’s life. Now that she’s with Poison Ivy, she wants to be the hero of both of their lives, and I believe that’s her journey,” I. Hamilton said.

Harley Quinn Season 4 Synopsis

This biting and uproarious adult animated comedy follows Harley Quinn (voiced by executive producer Kaley Cuoco) as she strikes out on her own following her breakup with The Joker (Alan Tudyk). With help from Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley attempts to work her way into the Legion of Doom, before an identity crisis sends her on a larger quest to find her true place in Gotham City. With appearances by DC’s most notorious characters and featuring a notable voice cast – including Christopher Meloni, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Tony Hale, and others – Harley Quinn showcases the titular antiheroine’s killer journey from girlfriend to leading lady.
