Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!
Jonah and Keeks took a trip to the Archie-verse to discuss the Netflix Original series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” After reacting to this week’s viral clip and revealing Google AI’s whitewashing of the history of Lake Lanier, Jonah and Keeks took some time to discuss the inconsistent reverse morality of the Greendale witches. They compared the newer and much gorier Sabrina to the fun Sabrina of our childhoods. You know, the one with the talking cat! The new series could have used a talking Salem.
The hosts highlighted the scene-stealing performances of Michelle Gomez, the late Chance Perdomo, and Tati Gabrielle, and Keeks points out that “magic is afoot whenever there is vaseline on the lens.” They wrap the discussion of the teen drama by reviewing some fun facts, behind-the-scenes trivia, and womp-womps of the episode. One of which is the reason why there wasn’t as much Salem as we all wanted.
Are you wondering how Keeks reacted to this week’s viral clip? You have to watch to find out.
Things to Know About Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is an American supernatural horror television series developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa for Netflix. The show was based on an “Archie” graphic novel series of the same name, which was also created by Aguirre-Sacasa. Kiernan Shipka starred as Sabrina Spellman, and the cast was rounded out by Ross Lynch (Harvey), Tati Gabrielle (Prudence), Jaz Sinclair (Roz), Lucy Davis (Hilda), Miranda Otto (Zelda), and my queen Michelle Gomez (Lilith / Madame Satan / Ms. Wardwell), and the late Chance Perdomo (Ambrose).
The dark, witchy tale ran from October 2018 to December 2020 for two seasons, split into four parts and a holiday special. Netflix felt splitting the seasons was the best way to tell a more structured story and keep up viewership buzz. Did that work 👀?
At the time of the recording, the series had a Tomatometer score of 82 percent and a Popcorn Meter rating of 72 percent.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Synopsis:
The hour-long drama reimagines the story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft, naturally. The new iteration is described in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit. All of this, and she’s 16 years old.
