CinemaCon 2026 - Warner Bros Discovery

CinemaCon 2026: Warner Bros. Discovery Movie Slate

The Warner Bros. presentation kicked off with hype and anticipation over the upcoming film slate. A sizzle reel started with 2025 favorites like Sinners, Superman, and One Battle After Another, and continued with upcoming titles like Minecraft 2, Remain from M. Night Shyamalan, the Ocean’s prequel with Margot Robbie, Bad Fairies with Cynthia Erivo, Margie Clause with Melissa McCarthy, and Man of Tomorrow from James Gunn, and Panic Carefully (first IMAX digital releases in 1:43:1 ratio in full run). The crowd was fired up, then Patton Oswalt, a self-proclaimed cinephile, took the stage to moderate Warner Bros. “The Big Picture” presentation. Oswalt said he saw over 100 movies in the theater last year, and he hopes to keep up that trend.

Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luca, Co-Chairs and CEOs of the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, took the stage shortly after to discuss the studio’s aggressive commitment to theatrical releases with longer exclusive windows for theaters and more original films. This includes 16 films through 2026 and 18 films in 2027. The studio only released 11 films in 2025. They also announced Warner Bros. Clockwork, a new label for more innovative, auteur-driven stories, independent films, and restored classic films. Sean Baker’s Ti Amo! will be the studio’s first project.

The crowds seemed intrigued and ready for the new titles and restorations under this new label.

Tom Cruise and Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu took the Dolby Colosseum stage to a cheering crowd to discuss their new film Digger, a dark, catastrophic comedy.

Attendees were treated to a sneak peek of this film featuring Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, and John Goodman. To embody the character of Rockwell Digger, Cruise takes on a prosthetic gut, a thinning white wig, and a southern accent. The film drew laughs and interest from the audience.

Digger is in theaters on October 2, 2026.

Afterward, convention attendees were treated to footage from Mortal Kombat II, featuring Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage finding his rhythm as a fighter while battling Baraka, played by CJ Bloomfield. The film, directed by Simon McQuoid, also features Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, and many other Mortal Kombat characters like Shao Kahn, Raiden, Kano, and Sindel.

The crowd reacted to the over-the-top nature of the movie. This movie promises a much more fun tone than the previous film.

Mortal Kombat II is in theaters on May 8, 2026.

Bill Damaschke, the President and Chief Creative Officer of Warner Bros. Animation, came out to ask the audience to open the packages convention attendees found in their seats upon arriving in the theater. After a collective roar of packages being unwrapped, the crowd gasped with joy at the reveal of a promotional Thing 1/Thing 2 wig to announce the first animated feature from Warner Bros. Animation, The Cat in the Hat – possibly the first in their series of Seuss-verse movies.

The crowd was treated to a new trailer and footage during the Warner Bros. presentation, and it was greeted with enthusiasm. Animated films like these do well at the box office, and theater owners will likely secure screens for this film. The Cat in the Hat, with characters voiced by Bill Hader, Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Matt Berry, and Xochitl Gomez, will be released exclusively in theaters on November 6, 2026.

Warner Bros. spared no time getting the conventioneers to the DC Universe! After the animated presentation, Peter Safran came out to give the crowd a chill and a thrill with sneak peeks at Clayface and Supergirl. Each set is in vastly different parts of the DCU.

The Clayface trailer was a minute of body horror set to a haunting version of “Do You Realize” by The Flaming Lips. The trailer left the audience with many questions, mostly about how much of the blob monster we will see. Is this going to be done with more practical effects and costumes? And mostly? What happened to Clayface and why? Safran equated this to a more elevated horror over a comic book movie and stated their focus on “character over genre.”

The focus was even more emphasized by the selected Supergirl footage. To introduce the scene, Safran brought Millie Alcock and Jason Momoa on stage; Momoa rode on an earthbound version of Lobo’s Spacehog.

While on an interplanetary transport away from the light of a red sun, Kara had to use her wits to stop a band of space pirates from stealing from the transport patrons, including her Kryptonian pocket watch. As the transport peaked the horizon of another planet, Kara saw a yellow sun. And that’s when things got…super. This character-driven teaser got the crowd cheering and curious about the story.

Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, lands in theaters June 6, 2026.

After the Supergirl crew left the stage, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman emerged onto the stage with a nostalgia led applause to discuss Practical Magic 2.

After some Owens sisters banter and a “we come here for magic” joke, Bullock introduces the concept of the long-awaited sequel by revealing the complete set reconstruction of the Owens’ house, the return of Stockard Channing and Diane Wiest, and, of course, midnight margaritas. Bullock then said, “Sally is single, and if you know the original film, you can probably guess why.” This confused the audience because the curse was resolved at the closing of the 1998 film.

The footage shown paints the picture of three generations of witches in their family home and working through their familial cross to bear. In one scene, Sally Owens, Bullock’s character, says to cast addition Lee Pace, “Everyone we love dies.”

Kidman’s character, Gillian, replies, “A really horrible death. It’s not great for the Tinder bio.”

Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to release exclusively in theaters Sept. 11, 2026.

Patton Oswalt then brought out Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director JJ Abrams to discuss his upcoming film The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Abrams explained that it took him some time to create this original story. This supernatural action film brought a positive reaction from the audience.

As the room settled, chants from the Fremen filled the room. Oswalt introduced Denis Villeneuve, and he took the stage to discuss Dune: Part 3, which takes place 17 years after the last film. Villeneuve said, “I didn’t want to walk into my own footsteps.” And part three of this series is for the fans.

Villeneuve was joined on stage by Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, and Jason Momoa to introduce footage for the attendees. The audience was treated to seven gruesome minutes of the new film. The opening scene depicted a battle that is reminiscent of the storming of the beaches of Normandy, on an overwhelming scale, with a visceral intensity. Even non-fans were wowed by the footage shown.

Dune: Part 3 releases in theaters Dec. 18, 2026.
