Remember the movie Sinners? What if the zombie standoff took place in a noodle shop instead of a juke joint? And what if Batgirl was involved?
If this idea intrigues you, then you’re going to love Batgirl #24. The comic, written by Tate Brombal and penciled by Takeshi Miyazawa, will be a tie-in to the Bad Seeds event that will be running through the Batman related books in late August, September and October.
“This is going to be [Cassandra Cain’s] night out,” Batgirl writer Tate Brombal says during a Gotham City panel at San Diego Comic Con 2026. “This is going to be, I’m going to my favorite noodle shop with my friends, we’re going to get some pho, and it becomes Sinners in a noodle shop, and she’s defending everyone from what’s happening outside and not letting anyone inside out.”
Except in this case, it’s Poison Ivy’s killer plants instead of zombies. If you haven’t been reading the current Batman books, you should know that Poison Ivy is mayor, and Bad Seeds is a 10-week comic book that focuses on the inevitable end of her political career.
“How can we tell a story that really affects everyone,” Batman writer Matt Fraction says. “I just wanted to play with all these other amazing writers and artists and hopefully do something that will feel like a summer blockbuster.”
Fraction also joked that the comic book medium allowed them to go all out in ways they never could in television or film. “To me it feels like the $300 billion movie about the Bat-Family that Hollywood would never make because it would cost 300 billion dollars to make” says Fraction.
G. Willow Wilson, who is writing Poison Ivy, says her anger about the state of the world inspires her scripts. “Every time I see something in the news about something else melting, camels dropping dead in the Sahara Desert because it’s too hot, I’m filled with a fresh jolt of rage about the state of the world that we live in. It’s a rage-propelled book,” Wilson says.
“When Ivy was first envisioned, she was very ahead of her time. Half a century went by, and now the planet is cooking to death, and now people are saying ,maybe ecoterrorism is more interesting than we thought it was,” Wilson continues.
