FanExpo Toronto 2026: Alan Ritchson Opens Up About the Challenges of Streaming Stardom

During the DCU Chapter One announcement in January 2023, one of the most exciting projects announced was The Brave and the Bold, a Batman film that would star the shared universe’s Batman and Robin: Damien Wayne (Bruce Wayne’s biological son). Not surprisingly, fans immediately started fancasting who could be the next actor to play the Dark Knight.

One of the most popular choices was Reacher star Alan Ritchson. This led to Ritchson being asked about during press for the third season of Reacher and the upcoming fourth season. Ritchson has addressed the idea of playing Batman as well as other possibilities during this time. This year at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, Canada, Ritchson said that his main goal is to create new original content. With one of the biggest footprints in streaming, this has become easier.

However, Ritchson revealed that certain streaming platforms wouldn’t discuss leading roles with the actor unless he had had a theatrical film open with a 100 million box office gross. Ritchson has been a part of films that have achieved this, but doesn’t credit himself with achieving it. The actor had supporting role in Fast X and was Ralphael in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Could this tease be an indication that his conversations with DC aren’t for a leading role but a supporting one? Being such a popular actor, the likelihood of Ritchson being fan-cast is going to continue until he is cast in the DC Universe or even potentially the MCU.

Ritchson has two films that will be releasing this year that likely won’t open to 100 million dollars, but the actors has indictated that he loves working and he hasn’t taken nearly anytime off since the release of thr first season of Reacher. Motor City and Runner are on the lower end of the threatical film budgetary side and may perform moderatley in the cinema, but like most of Ritchson’s work will likely perfom very well on the streaming side.
