Phase 3 is a go! Earlier this month Marvel officially announced that this summer’s smash about the smallest of heroes, Ant Man, was getting a sequel titled Ant Man and the Wasp. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Peyton Reed is in negotiations to direct this sequel. Reed was the director of the first film, as well as the cult classic Bring It On! and the charming period piece Down With Love.
It’s no surprise Reed is being considered for the position. After all, Ant Man did make $410 million worldwide. He even tweeted when the news about the sequel first broke, showing his enthusiasm for the project before his name was even attached.

If Reed is chosen it will be interesting to see a film that is his vision from start to finish. While he did direct the first Ant Man, a lot of work was also put in by the film’s first director Edgar Wright. Wright left the film, but is credited as one of the writers alongside Joe Cornish, Adam Mckay, and Paul Rudd. After it was released fans speculated over which scenes were written by Wright and which were shaped by Reed. Being on board from the very beginning of production will cast no shadow of another director over Reed–something that could provide both freedom and pressure.
But again, nothing is official… yet.
Ant Man and the Wasp will be released on July 6th, 2018 and will bring back Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/the Wasp.
