Another day, and even more news trickling out regarding the third installment in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. Yesterday it was revealed that The Hulk may be traveling to Asgard to help Thor save the day. Today the website Birth. Movies. Death. published a story revealing that a new heroine may be unleashed on the MCU – Valkyrie!
You may not realize it, but Valkyrie was considered for Thor: The Dark World as well. The concept art used in this article is from the Art of Thor: The Dark World book.
In the comics, Valkyrie (whose real name was Brunnhilde) was the leader of the Valkyrior, a group of warrior goddesses who would appear over the battlefields of mortals and choose which of the fallen were worthy to be taken to Valhalla, the land of the honored dead.
Ragnarok is an End of Days, Asgardian style. Also known as the “Twilight of the Gods”, it is a myth that tells of the eventual destruction of the universe and mankind as well as the deaths of several key figures in Norse Mythology such as the gods Odin, Thor, Loki, Heimdall and others.
Kevin Feige has already stated that the events in Thor: Ragnarok will play a large role leading into the two Avengers: Infinity Wars titles.
All of this news regarding Thor: Ragnarok certainly makes it sound like Marvel is working hard to beef up what a lot of people consider to be the weakest of the story lines in the MCU.
I’ve always been hopeful that Enchantress would join the MCU, might we see both Valkyrie AND Enchantress this time around? As Marvel tries to make their comics and movies more and more diverse, it’s definitely a possibility.
Thor: Ragnarok is being written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost and will be released on November 3, 2017.
