While promoting his new movie Spectre, actor Dave Bautista sat down with Cinemablend and also fielded a few questions regarding how Drax will be handled in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.0.
I haven’t read the script, and I’m being completely honest when I say that, but I think, having talked to James [Gunn] about the film, I know he’s… I hate to give any spoilers, but I know he’s really going to focus on Drax being a badass. He’s still not really going to get metaphors, even though he thinks he does, but he’ll still be that very literal Drax, but I think you’re going to see a lot more badass Drax.
I know I am not alone when I say that I’m very glad to hear that Drax is going to be rougher and tougher this time around, but I’m also thrilled about the metaphors. That was one of the many hilarious parts of the first movie and I’m glad to see it carry over into Vol. 2.
After the Guardians defeted Ronan at the end of the first movie, Drax said that he wasn’t finished and that “It’s really Thanos that I need to kill”. It is hard to imagine that we won’t see Drax and Thanos do battle at some point in time. Whether it’s in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.0 or possibly further down the line in Infinity Wars is unknown at this point.
As far as the storyline as a whole, I honestly don’t know, and if I did know obviously I wouldn’t tell you, but I hope they’ll continue on with that path, and – fingers crossed as a fan – I hope that it will tie in with The Avengers somewhere down the road. I’ve only heard rumors, but I’m being honest, and I’ve been honest in the past, I hope that it ends up there because I would love to go there.
I love that Bautista says “as a fan”. Clearly his character Drax is more than just a job to him, you can tell he genuinely cares for his character and the franchise. Who doesn’t want to see the Avengers and Guardians team up? Can you imagine the banter between Stark and Quill? It would be amazing.
The Dave Bautista interview appered on Cinamablend this morning, and James Gunn confirmed what Bautista had to say.
James’ line totally reminded me of drunk Rocket saying “That is also true!” I’m not the only one, right?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.0 is coming sooner than you might realize. With a current release date of May 5, 2017, Vol. 2.0 is now third in line behind Civil War and Doctor Strange. The first Guardians of the Galaxy greatly exceeded expectations and wound up making $774.2 million worldwide. It was the third most successful movie of 2014 at the box office.
I can’t wait for Vol. 2.0 of the movie – and the soundtrack!
