It’s about as faithful to his comic book depiction as you could hope for, which ought to ease any fandom fears. The film’s being directed by Sinister‘s Scott Derrickson, and promises to be Marvel’s first foray until scary movie territory. EW also chatted with Cumberbatch a little about how he’s adjusting to the role. Sounds like it’s taken some research.

“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that… It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of thatfinger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”

In other words, he has some experience with modern translations of iconic characters, and he doesn’t want to get this one wrong.

Doctor Strange also stars Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Chiwetel Ejiofor. This image is the only official look we have right now—the film isn’t even scheduled to finish filming until March—but there’s sure to be a trailer to help tide you over till the movie actually drops on November 4, 2016. Stay tuned!
