Today Marvel released a video interview of Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Captain America: Civil War. The interview is included in the Phase 2 Blu Ray boxed set and includes footage from the new movie as well as some of the older installments in the MCU.
The directors discuss how Captain America 3 will be the culmination of everything that has happened up until this point and that the movie will have long lasting repercussions.
When you come out of that film, nothing will be the same.
~Joe Russo
They also discuss that Civil War will challenge our views of Captain America and Iron Man.
It’s going to Challenge how you think about Tony Stark…challenge the way that you think about Steve Rogers…
~Joe Russo
Robert Downey Jr. also discusses the tension between the movie’s two headlining characters. We’ve already seen Tony and Steve at each other’s throats in both of the Avengers movies. It will be fun to see how each character decides which side they are on and where their allegiances lie.
There is a rift between them and it puts their relationship in the balance…as well as The Avengers.
~Robert Downey Jr.
It has already been discussed in previous interviews that Scarlet Witch is “the wildcard”. Being new to the team she really has no allegiance to anyone. Although we do know how her and her brother felt about Tony Stark prior to the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Elizabeth Olsen discusses her role as Scarlet Witch, and how she will be changed in Civil War. Scarlet Witch and Vision were two amazing additions to the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it’s exciting to think about where they are taking them in the next movie.
She’s more understanding of her skills…She has quite a great emotional journey in this one.
~Elizabeth Olsen
Civil War shapes up to basically become Avengers 2.5 and includes Captain America, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Sharon Carter and Vision – and those are just the heroes. Somehow they’ve got to manage a way to also fit in Crossbones, Baron Zemo and General “Thunderbolt” Ross.
Even watching clips from the older movies that I’ve already seen a million times gives me chills and makes me even more geeked out for the upcoming release. Captain America: Civil War is the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be released in theaters May 6, 2016.
Only five more months to go!
