Breaking – Marvel today officially announced that Ryan Coogler will be directing the Black Panther movie. Known most recently for his work on Creed which recently earned a Golden Globe for actor Sylvester Stallone for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. Coogler wrote and directed his first feature film Fruitvale Station in 2013.
Producer Kevin Feige spoke highly of Coogler and stated he was Marvel’s first choice:
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family…the talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
While the Black Panther solo movie won’t be in theaters until February 16, 2018 the character, played by Chadwick Boseman will first appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie due out May 6 of this year. Fans have already seen T’Challa in concept art and the Civil War trailer:
Ryan Coogler was born on May 23, 1986 in Oakland, California, USA as Ryan Kyle Coogler. He is a director and writer, known for Creed (2015), Fruitvale Station (2013) and Locks (2009).
