Top 5 Actresses For Captain Marvel

March 8, 2019. Get ready Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, the first woman to get her own solo film will be Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers! With this film being the 21st entry in the MCU, this is one film and woman that cannot be mishandled in any way. The five ladies below exude all the qualities of Ms. Danvers.

5. Rebecca Ferguson

The breath of fresh air Summer 2015 needed. When Rebecca Ferguson was cast in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, many wondered who this “new” face was. After the film came out, many (this writer included) could not stop talking about her. She can bring all the intensity Danvers is known for. Disagree? Watch Rogue Nation and then tell me I’m wrong.

4. Charlize Theron

Two words. Mad Max. Like Ferguson, Theron’s role of Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road received widespread critical and commercial acclaim, overshadowing star Tom Hardy. Of course the role was well written, but her performance had many wondering why it was called Mad Max when the film was about her! Anyways, Theron made me a believer in her ability to play Danvers.

3. Emily Blunt

The frontrunner for many since the film was announced in October 2014, Blunt would be a huge “get” for Marvel. Her films like Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow, and Looper showcase what she can do in a thriller or action based film. Her other roles such as Into The Woods and Devil Wears Prada shows how she can deal with comedic and fantasy based roles. Sounds like an ideal match for a Marvel flick!

2. Yvonne Strahovski

She may not have the filmography or awards that the other actresses on this have, but that does not mean she’s any less experienced or worthy of the Captain Marvel role. On many fan cast lists, she of course played Sarah Walker in Chuck, Kate Morgan in 24: Die Another Day and who can forget her as Hannah in Dexter? She has the attitude, skills, confidence fan backing AND age to make her more than capable of being awarded the role and franchise friendly if the film proves to be successful.

  1. Elizabeth Banks

I know. Unexpected right? Call me crazy but Elizabeth Banks feels right as the top choice here. She can portray the vulnerable side that Captain Marvel requires along with the kick-ass, ready to rumble, feisty demeanor Danvers is known for. She knows how to talk to fans as evidenced by her handling of social media, which will come in handy when marketing the film. While she has mainly done comedy films, one only needs to take note of her performances in The Hunger Games franchise and Love & Mercy to know she has it all.

Honorable mentions include Katheryn Winnick, Natalie Dormer and Katee Sackhoff. Even though we have 3 years until the film comes out, it’s never too early to think about who will have the honor of portraying such a woman. Let’s hope Marvel gets it right.
