With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 right in the middle of filming, Writer/Director James Gunn took to Facebook yesterday for some fan Q&A. Nothing unusual for Gunn, as we detailed in an earlier article there is no one in the MCU who spends more time chatting it up with the fans.
During his Q&A the topic of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 came up. Nothing official has been announced from Marvel about a Volume 3, but with the success of the first movie and number two already filming, it’s difficult to imagine there not being a third.
Gunn replied that his current focus is 100% on Volume 2:
Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2”, he said. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.
So, you’re saying there WILL be a Volume 3? Great news for Marvel fans. It’s difficult to see a Guardians of the Galaxy movie that isn’t in the hands of James Gunn. I know I’m hoping that he is back at the helm, what about you?
That said, if Gunn does work on all three films it will be a first for Marvel. Joss Whedon and Jon Favreau have both directed two movies but no one has ever directed three.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will hit theaters in just a little over a year on May 5, 2017.
