By now, I hope you’ve had time to watch season two of Marvel’s Daredevil. If you haven’t you may want to save this article until you get the chance to, as there will be spoilers below. As a self-proclaimed MCU aficionado, I couldn’t help but notice some interesting connections and MCU Easter eggs in Daredevil season two. Whether they are major connections, or blink and you miss it Easter eggs they all serve as reminders that everything is connected in the MCU. Despite the Netflix shows feeling like they are in their own little corner, they all take place in the same universe as the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Here are the the connections, and Easter eggs I noticed in Daredevil’s second set of thirteen episodes.
Connections & Easter Eggs
I feel as though there were many more connections to the greater MCU in the first season of Daredevil. The ones that were present this season were also more subtle than last season’s. Here are a few of the season two connections that stuck out to me the most.
- There seemed to be a lot of Civil War setup, but on a smaller scale. In episode two Karen Page makes some pretty poignant claims about the dangers of vigilantes and innocent people being caught in the crossfire – both a reminder of the collateral damage caused by heroes as well as a potential foreshadow into events that happen later in the season.
- In episode three Claire made a clear reference to the time she helped Luke Cage at the end of Jessica Jones, when she said, “I helped another guy – bigger and stronger than our mutual friend,” when talking to Foggy at the hospital.
- In episode five it’s revealed that Elektra has very deep connections with the Roxxon Corporation – an organization that’s been present throughout MCU. They have been seen in Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, and some feature films.
- In episode five Foggy meets with his friend Marci at the bar when she name-drops Jessica Jones.
After episode five the episodes are more self-contained, and prominent Easter eggs and connections become less and less common.
- In a surprising, but welcomed cameo, Jeri Hogarth makes an appearance in which she is trying to hire Foggy for her firm. Hogarth makes a nice comment about being familiar with, “People with special circumstances.” This is a clear reference to powered people and her time with Jessica and her dealings with Kilgrave.
While there were fewer references to the Hulk, Captain America, or “The Incident (Battle of New York)” than there were in the first season, the connections in this season were much deeper.
There was also a really cool reference to the events of Daredevil in Agents of SHIELD’s episode titled “Watchdogs” when a ticker on a news broadcast references the ongoing gang war in Hell’s Kitchen.
Final Thoughts
As someone who loves the MCU, I am always excited when we get the opportunity to see another property show us a different perspective in this universe. Whether it’s a new season of Agent Carter, the continued stories of the Inhumans in Agents of SHIELD, or the introduction of Spider-Man and Black Panther in Civil War – the MCU is an intricate and fascinating world.
