Hold onto your webs, Tony Stark is coming to Queens!
Robert Downey Jr has closed a deal to bring Iron Man into the fold for Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will be the eighth appearance in the MCU for the character after establishing a relationship with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War.
It will be interesting to see how the mentor/mentee relationship establishes itself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, whether it flourishes or becomes stressed after the events in Captain America: Civil War. Considering both characters are known for their comedic wits we should be in for quite a few riffs between them.
There were rumors that Downey Jr. and Chris Evans may appear in Homecoming after letting slip they’d be returning to Atlanta for more filming. Iron Man and Captain America appear in The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1, Issue 252 entitled Homecoming. (Although James Rhodes is technically in the Iron Man suit during the comics timeline.)
Downey Jr. is the latest to join the ranks of Team Spidey with previously announced castings of Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Laura Harrier and Tony Revolori as Peter’s schoolmates and Zendaya in the mystery role of “Michelle.”
If the rumors of Michael Keaton being in talks to join come true, we’ll get to see Iron Man v Batman! Kind of. Hey don’t steal away our dreams.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will arrive in theaters on July 7th, 2017. Cop Car director Jon Watts will direct from a script by screenwriters John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein.
