With the introduction of Iron Man and the beginnings of the Cinematic Universe, Natalia Romanova has been a key player in the MCU.  She was a supporting player in Iron Man 2, a stand out in Captain America: the Winter Soldier, And a major player in the recent Captain America: Civil War. The rallying cry of fans of the MCU has been when the lead avenger would get her own film as she seemingly has been unfortunately sidelined.

From the #WheresWidow Campaign looking for her in toys and merchandising for little girls, to fans that cosplay as the character, the struggles of Natasha Romanoff have been held up as an example to women looking for strong rolemodels in a primarily male dominated medium.  With 3 captain america films, 3 iron man films, and even hulk films fans have long been asking “Where’s Natasha” and it appears as though Marvel is finally ready to answer that question.

According to deadline.com, Kevin Feige revealed  that they are in the process of developing a solo outing for the character.

“We’ve announced the next 9 movies, 10 counting civil war, through the end of 2019. Where we’ll go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then.  Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly that the one we’re creatively and emotionally committed to doing is Black Widow.”

When pushed to say why she’s a priority, Feige had this to say.

“We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing.  She’s a lead avenger and has amazing stories to tell in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand alone franchise.”
