Following the release and $80 Million haul of X-Men: Apocalypse this past weekend, Marvel and FX have officially announced that FX Networks is moving forward with an eight episode series order for the X-Men spinoff “Legion.”
The series hailing from “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley, tells the story of David Haller, a man that struggled with mental illness since he was a teenager. Initially diagnosed as schizophrenic, he bounced in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Following a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he realizes that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. In the comics, Haller is the son of Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller.
The series stars Dan Stevens as David Haller (Downton Abbey, The Guest, Disney’s Beauty and The Beast) along with Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jean Smart (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Amber Midthunder (“Hell or High Water”), Katie Aselton (The League) and Bill Irwin (Interstellar).
“Marvel Television is thrilled to not only have our first partnership with FX go to series, but working with the enormously talented Noah Hawley makes it even better,” added Marvel TV head / Exec Producer Jeph Loeb in a statement. “From the first time we heard Noah’s vision to his exceptional script and cast through the extraordinary filming of the pilot, we knew the series would be incredible.”
All of this news has us at TMR practically salivating to see footage from the pilot. The series will debut on FX in early 2017. Get ready X-Fans; this could be one to watch.
Noah Hawley (“Fargo”) will serve as an Executive Producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Superman Returns”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Martian”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”), Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and John Cameron (“Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski”). “Legion” is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the Executive Producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® -winning FX limited series “Fargo.”
