Warner Bros. Hires Rick Famuyiwa To Direct The Flash

With the recent shake-ups at Warner Bros. for the DC Extended Universe, things are starting to pick up with the studios recently making DC Comics’ CCO Geoff Johns the co-lead of DC Films and now it looks like The Flash movie is starting to come together once again.

Deadline Hollywood announced today that Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa will be directing the upcoming film about the Scarlet Speedster, who will be played by Ezra Miller who made his debut as Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will be reprising the role in Justice League: Part 1 which is currently filming in London, and Part 2 which will film later on.

The script was written by Seth Grahame-Smith who was originally supposed to direct until he and Warner Bros. parted ways. His script was based on a treatment by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Deadline went on to say the following about the choice of getting Famuyiwa for the film:

“Warner Bros is looking for the right chemical mix on its superhero picture line based on the DC Comics heroes, and the feeling internally was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with.  That vision was executed to strong reviews in Dope, the 2015 film about a young geek trying to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood.”

The Flash will be out in theaters on March 16, 2018.
