EDITORIAL: Five Actors For Cloak And Dagger

The actor that is chosen to play Ty must be able to convey a sense of darkness and balance it with the occasional outlook of hope and light, which can be very tricky for a young actor. These following five actors have proven they can handle that with ease:

Denzel Whitaker

Never saw The Great Debaters? Do it as soon as you can. Denzel Whitaker delivered an impressive performance in this film, guided none other than by Denzel Washington. Having held his own against actors like Washington, Forest Whitaker (no relation) and Nate Parker couldn’t have been easy and that’s why he’s on this list. No stranger to comedy as he voiced a role on The Boondocks, Denzel Whitaker could prove to be a good fit for Cloak.

Titus Makin, Jr.

One of the lesser known actors on this list, Titus Makin has held lead and recurring roles on shows like Pretty Little Liars, Glee, and the short-lived Star-Crossed. Even though he may not be as recognizable compared to the other actors on this list does not mean he should be taken lightly. With his past roles, he will be right at home with a youth skewing network like Freeform. Makin is also a musician, a trait that helps him bring nuance to each role he’s had.

Tequan Richmond

This Everybody Loves Chris alum is one of the best young african-american actors out right now. An actor with great range, Richmond showed he can handle comedy with Chris, drama with the indie film, Blue Caprice and romance with his current role on General Hospital – a role which earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2015. While his role on Hospital could keep him from playing Cloak, Marvel/Freeform would be crazy not to at least consider him.

Maestro Harrell

Maestro Harrell has been on the verge of huge breakout role for years. From his role on Suburgatory to recurring spots on House of Lies and Fear the Walking Dead, Maestro has shown he can handle comedy and drama with little effort. As with the other musicians on this list, Maestro is a music producer with edge, meaning he can bring a powerful performance to Cloak. You’d be wise to keep an eye on him.

Trevor Jackson

If anyone can handle the delicate balance of Cloak’s dark outlook and hunger, its Trevor Jackson. From lighter roles on Disney Channel’s TV Movie, Let It Shine to Eureka and American Crime, Jackson has the chops to back it up. The actor / singer/ songwriter and dancer has acted opposite heavyweights like Regina King and Courtney B. Vance and manages to find something deep and soulful that manages to come out in his music. He’s already familiar with the Disney/ABC family, which should making casting him a breeze. Another one to keep an eye out, you’ll soon be hearing more of him.

We at The Marvel Report look forward to seeing who ends up cast in these roles. Marvel rarely misses with casting and this show is no exception. Stay tuned to TMR for more Cloak and Dagger news!
