SDCC Agents of SHIELD Panel Recap

Last week at San Diego Comic Con, a few of our Marvel Reporters sat in on the Agents of SHIELD panel in Ballroom 20 and were treated to exclusive footage of a blooper reel from season three, and a first look at the Ghost Rider logo.

The panelists, who were introduced by Jeph Loeb, included Clark Gregg, Ming-Ma Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Elizabeth Henstridge, Ian De Caestecker, Jed Whedon, and Laurissa Tancharoen.

Before the question and answer session, the audience was treated with two screen tests from before the show aired. The first clip featured Elizabeth Henstridge and Ian De Caestecker acting out a scene that would eventually be written into the show as the scene at the end of season one when the two of them find themselves trapped at the bottom of the ocean. Their chemistry is evident from the start of the scene, and, what’s even more remarkable is that this was the first time they had ever worked together, according to the producers.

The second video featured a screen test between Chloe Bennet and Brett Dalton. Their two characters also share a notable chemistry in their scene that brings back memories from the early days of the show when everything ran smoothly and no one was a Hydra traitor.

A blooper real was also shown for the audience, which, as usual, featured lots of tripping, falling, cussing, and dancing.

The cast, whose palpable chemistry had the audience laughing for most of the panel, shared stories about last season and what’s in store for the coming season. A Q&A session was done as well, that included a little boy who had a question for Tancharoen and Whedon that melted everyone’s hearts. “How did you have the feeling to kill Lincoln and Ward,” the boy asked to an audible “awwww,” from the audience. Tancharoen and Whedon looked at each other like they didn’t want to answer the question until Whedon finally replied, “Some things have to be done for the sake of the story, but I don’t regret that decision as much as I do right this second.”

The panel ended with Clark Gregg begging Loeb to finally show the audience “the thing,” that had been teased the whole panel. Loeb finally agreed and the room went dark.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns this fall on September 20 at 10pm on ABC.
