We’re in first gear and ready to ride! This morning YahooTV brought us our first look at Agents of SHIELD’s Ghost Rider! Unlike Johnny Blaze’s motorcycle, or even the Phantom Rider’s horse, this 1969 Dodge Charger seems hellbent on packing a punch and delivering some much needed vengeance to the MCU.
“Ghost Rider opens up a whole different kind of storytelling for us.” says SHIELD producer Jeff Bell. Not only is he the most well known character they’ve had on the show but his origins are patently supernatural. He’ll be blazing a firey trail into a currently unexplored realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the supernatural. While Doctor Strange will be giving a big screen introduction to these elements, Ghost Rider will pave the way.
His appearance coincides with the show’s move to 10 PM which show star Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy Johnson, says means a “darker and sexier” version of SHIELD. “If anyone’s familiar with the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider” she says, “They know the show will have to deal with issues of vengeance, penance, the line between good and evil and who deserves to die. These massive themes are being threaded throughout our season.”
Reyes is a down-on-his-luck mechanic who takes it upon himself to look after his disabled brother Gabriel in a dangerous neighborhood. After a street race gone bad leaves him murdered, he’s returned to life by a spirit who calls himself Eli Morrow. As always, the Visual effect that the show delivers are spectacular and Reyes’s vengeful glare is burning his way off the page.
