I will never get tired of watching Luke Cage being a hero. When this new Luke Cage clip asked if we wanted some I emphatically stood up and said ” Yes.”
This new clip coming straight to us from Netflix and features Cage stopping one of the apparently numerous Harlem gangs and defending an elderly Asian couple at their restaurant. The clip features a heck of a lot of really cool special effects, from Cage breaking a man’s fist by simply standing there (watch the clip) to stopping a bullet with a raised hand. While the significance of that is incredibly powerful (Cheo Hokari promised us a bullet proof black man and he certainly delivered.) The clip delivered something else as well – the same level of fun and heroism that I’ve come to expect from any of the avengers, not to mention any of Luke Cage’s fellow Defenders.
From the very subtle Power man references (did anyone catch how the inside of his hoodie was “yellow”?) to the fun choreography it’s clear that Luke Cage is going to bring more then just fantastic character work. Each fight scene is unique and fun and feels like it fits in a chronology within the story. From the staging I could tell this is an earlier fight in the story, unrelated to the great big typical “hallway” scene that we’ve come to expect from Marvel’s Netflix offerings. When everything from the lighting to the story to the characters actions are so choreographed you can tell that Luke Cage will be bringing us something new from the get go – and I can’t wait to see what we’ve got in store.
