Less than a week after Deadpool 2 director Tim Miller departed the sequel — citing creative differences with star and producer Ryan Reynolds — news is starting to surface regarding his replacement. According to Jeff Sneider at Mashable, John Wick co-director David Leitch is currently the frontrunner to replace Miller in the director’s chair. This is very good news — for official parties and fans alike. No stranger to comic book based films, Leitch previously worked with Reynolds on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was a second unit director on Captain America: Civil War, worked on 300, Fight Club, and more.
Why is this good news you ask? First and foremost, from everything we’ve heard, whoever directs Deadpool 2 must be able to work within the sandbox that 20th Century Fox and must have rapport with Reynolds and the company Deadpool has established thus far. With his pre-existing relationship with Reynolds, that won’t be a problem. Next, Leitch has plenty of action experience that fits Deadpool to a tee. I call this a win in every sense of the word. What do you think?
Deadpool 2 is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and is being eyed for a 2018 release date.
