Kevin Feige on Doctor Strange and Infinity War

Kevin Feige just can’t escape questions about Marvel’s Infinity War. IGN spoke with Marvel’s mastermind about Doctor Strange and the direction the MCU will be taking after his introduction.

Feige believes the hardest part of the MCU was behind them like introducing Norse gods. Totally fair considering Iron Man started this whole universe out relatively grounded. With multiple Thor films,  Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy it seems that believability is no longer Marvel’s worry.

The bigger concern is fitting new characters into an army of established faces that we’ve known for some time. Kevin can rest easy as both Avengers films and Captain America: Civil War have handled that growth swimmingly. Then noting while everything is connected the title change of the fourth Avengers reflects that it’ll be it’s own story.

Speaking for Doctor Strange he mentioned that Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular hero is one of the most powerful. He also notes that doesn’t mean he’s an expert in the mystical arts. Citing a “learning curve” that will still be active entering the climax of the film.

Another nice aside is that Marvel intentionally made Wakanda’s appearance in Civil War fairly foggy. Preventing Black Panther director Ryan Coogler from being tied to established environmental visuals and giving him a more open palette.

To close out, television characters from Agents of SHIELD & Defenders came up. It’s been will-they-won’t-they for fans regarding characters like Daredevil, Agent May and Luke Cage hitting the big screen. Never one to give too much away, Feige teased while staying mum by saying, “Spoilers.”

Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016 from Scott Derrickson. Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther releases February 16, 2018 followed by the Russo Brothers’ Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
