The world of Frank Castle is growing.
In addition to casting Ben Barnes as criminal prodigy Bobby Saint, Ebon-Moss Bachrach as Micro the Punisher’s sidekick, and Amber Rose Revah as Dinah, a homeland security agent, marvel.com has announced five new cast members who’ll be joining Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
According to Marvel, Daniel Webber will be cast as Lewis Walcott, a young soldier who has a difficult time re-adjusting to civilian life. Given that that’s something that Castle could relate to, could we see a mentor relationship grow between the two? Castle is notorious for working alone but it presents an intriguing character choice. Webber’s previous credits include Steven King’s 11.22.63.
Joining Webber is Jason R Moore playing Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Castle’s and one of the few people who know that Castle is alive. Intriguing. Could we be seeing another betrayal similar to what happened to Frank in Daredevil Season 2?
It seems likely with the addition of Paul Shulze who will be playing Rawlins, “a high ranking CIA agent whose operations in Afghanistan interact with Frank Castle.” Fans might remember that Castle’s former commanding officer was a drug dealer who got his start in Afghanistan, a plot point borrowed from the current comic book run. Could the Frank Castle series be borrowing from the current series run written by author Becky Cloonan?
Joining them is Jamie Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, AKA Micro’s wife. Marvel television has taken their female characters to new heights and put them into new situations. Micro, traditionally a bachelor with a wife? Color us interested.
Micheal Nathanson rounds out the cast as Sam Stein, a homeland security agent whose life is forever altered by Amber Rose Revah’s Dinah, and the eventual meeting that we all know is coming with Frank Castle.
“We couldn’t ask for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel’s the Punisher.” said showrunner Steven Lightfoot. Executive Producer Jeph Leob agreed, “Marvel TV is very proud of the cast of the Punisher. Each actor brings a special promise who surround Jon Bernthal’s exceptional performance.”
Marvel also revealed that Steven Lightfoot will write the first two episodes in addition to serving as showrunner and executive producer. Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage), will also serve as executive producer along with Jeph Leob – head of Marvel Television.
No release date for Punisher has currently been announced. Bernthal is expected to reprise his role in The Defenders and his solo series is currently filming.
