Marvel.com reported that film and television director S.J. Clarkson will direct the first two episodes of the Netflix original series, Marvel’s The Defenders. She will also be the Executive Producer on the first episode. Clarkson is known for Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Vinyl and Orange is the New Black. Marvel’s The Defenders will be an 8-episode series following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as they band together to save their city.
Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have all had their singular stories told. Marvel’s Iron Fist will explore Danny Rand’s life, premiering on March 17, 2017. Marvel’s The Defenders will focus on the characters’ personal struggles, but also how they strengthen each other.
Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer Jeph Loeb said about S.J. Clarkson,
“S.J.’s take on the material is outstanding. We loved her work on Marvel’s Jessica Jones and couldn’t think of a more talented and accomplished person to helm the first two episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders.”
Charlie Cox will be returning as Matt Murdock/ Daredevil, Krysten Ritter will be reprising her role as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter will be Luke Cage and Finn Jones has been cast as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. Sigourney Weaver will also be joining Marvel’s The Defenders in a still unknown role. The executive producers for Marvel’s The Defenders are Marco Ramirez, Doug Petrie, Drew Goddard, Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory.
Marvel’s The Defender’s will be released to Netflix in 2017
