When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s winter finale concluded on December 6th, fans were provided with a little something extra: a six-part digital series entitled Slingshot that would star Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo Yo” Rodriguez. The episodes were uploaded in their entirety on December 13, (and if you haven’t seen them yet) you can see them all here: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Slingshot Digital Series.
Today Marvel pulled the curtain back a little and gave us a peek into the making of Slingshot.
Executive Producer Geoffrey Colo revealed that ABC and Marvel had been wanting to do a digital series for some time — “The trick was finding something that fit snugly into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s timeline and the greater MCU.” Personally, I find that very exciting and hope that Marvel found Slingshot successful enough that we may see more digital series in the future.
Also featured in this behind-the-scenes glimpse is Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada. Quesada made his directorial debut on the first episode of Slingshot. “I’m sort of a planning fanatic with stuff, so I did very detailed storyboards,” Quesada said. Being a long-time comic book artist and Marvel fan, it’s no surprise that the storyboards for Slingshot look like something right out of a comic book.
When talking about how her character deals with the difficult decision of signing the Sokovia Accords, Yo-Yo herself, Natalia Cordova-Buckley added, “I think she really wants to believe in them, she really wants to trust them.” Cordova-Buckley also said, “Being a part of the Slingshot digital series is really, really special”
