Miles Morales’s star continues to shine for Marvel. With a top selling comic series, a presence in the gaming world that Marvel has created, he’s the hero to beat. Fans of Miles can now add “movie star” to Miles’s impressive list of credentials, as Sony has made the announcement that Miles Morales is the confirmed star of the animated Spider-Man epic.
Sony made the announcement on Twitter today as part of their Sony Animation Panel, confirming both the picture and the star. The studio announced that “they would be bringing the Miles Morales story to the big screen” captained by Peter Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the Lego Film. This reaffirms the news broken earlier by Heroic Hollywood, who originally broke the news last year.
.@PhilipLord and @ChrizMillr are bringing the Miles Morales story to the big screen in all-new animated stand-alone SPIDER-MAN feature.

Miles Morales is famous for being the Ultimate Spider-Man, an alternate reality Spider-Man whose world collided with the main 616 comic continuity. The half-black, half Puerto Rican Spider-Man, originally created by writer Brian Micheal Bendis, was a huge hit with Spider-Man fans. True to that spirit, Sony has announced that this animated Spider-Man film will “co-exist” with other projects. It will exist independently of any live action projects in the Spidey universe. Producers include Spider-Man franchise vets Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Sony chairperson Amy Pascal, who is producing the live action Spider-Man: Homecoming with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
