Patton Oswalt originally started on Agents Of SHIELD in 2014 tied to the Hydra storyline of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Though his character Eric Koenig, didn’t survive, Patton did return to the show as the character’s identical twin brothers, Sam and Billy.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Patton will be returning to Agents of SHIELD earlier today. He is to appear in the 12th episode of the season titled, “Hot Potato Soup” that airs on January 31st. Marissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon, the show runners, had this to say about Patton’s return:
“Patton Oswalt returns as the Koenigs, and we finally reveal their family secret.”
The family secret could be the most obvious one: Koenig is actually an Inhuman who can multiply himself. Or since we’re dealing with LMD this half of the season, maybe Koenig is a part of a line of LMDs. Whichever possibility is right, according to EW, the Koenigs are being hunted down in the episode “Hot Potato Soup”. EW also revealed a first look of Patton from the upcoming episode that you can see below.
