Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2: Peter Quill And Drax, Power Stones And More

We’re continuing our news from the set with a look at Peter and Drax, courtesy again of the amazing collider.com. Peter and Drax butted heads in the first film over multiple concepts from metaphor to Gamora.  Has that changed in the second film?  They all fought together as a team, but with Peter on the search for his father and Drax’s connection to Mantis, have things changed for the two of them? Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista sat down to explain where each of their characters are and just what’s in store with them for Volume 2?

Peter’s journey to connect with his father, also known as Ego the Living Planet will be a major focal point for the story.  While we know very little about Ego himself, Pratt weighed in on what to expect from Peter Quill and his expectations of Ego.

“You get to find out who he hopes his father is and who he wishes his father is, and you get to find out whether or not that is the reality.”

A little alarming given that Ego is apparently looking out for Mantis, not to mention holding quite a bit of power.  In the comics, Ego is an occasional hero but more often an anti-hero and villain looking out for himself.  It remains to be seen what Ego will do.  It’s important, because there’s more at work here.  It would appear as if we’ll finally learn just what connects Peter to the Power stone.  James Gunn has said that it’s a thread that “will get pulled” in the second movie.

There’s a question as to why Star Lord was able to hold the Infinity Stone and not be completely and immediately destroyed. We learn a little bit more about why that’s the case in this movie.”

Crazy right? While Peter’s got his own issues we know Drax and Mantis will make a connection.  How “looks” play into it remains to be seen, but Dave Bautista opened up about the make-up job that gives him that warrior look.

It takes like an hour and a half now. The last one, they got it down to four hours and everybody was celebrating. This, literally, they attack me with paint rollers just all over, and it looks better too.

Four hours in a make-up chair? We don’t know if we could handle it.  He continued saying that while the make up process – or at least putting it on – is easy. It’s taking it off that’s hard. We’ve got to take our hats off to Dave Bautista, his strength is unquestioned and to act as well as he does under all of that? Unbelievable.  Still. How to take it off at the end of the day safely? Marvel’s solution? A Sauna.

The problem was it goes on really great and it looks really great. It’s really hard to get off. So they came up with this idea – they stick me in a sauna at the end of the day. [Laughs] They literally have to melt it off of me so that was the thing, because during the test we found out it’s so abrasive they literally have to scrub it off of me. So after two days, my skin was like hamburger. So they came up with the sauna thing, and I literally have this portable sauna that travels around with me and I get in at the end of the day, and I get three guys who come in and attack me. Nothing weird there.  Four guys in a sauna, just being men.”

It’s nice to hear about a guy being put through intense make up jobs while women traditionally get asked those questions.  We’re hopeful to hear more about Drax (how can you not love him? His reflexes are too fast, he’ll catch you not loving him.) but in the meantime we have some interesting questions to ask about Peter and we’ve learned a little bit about how amazingly awesome Dave Bautista is.

Is it interesting to you? Do you think you could handle Dave Bautista’s make-up job? Sound off in the comments below true believers. Excelsior!
