Elizabeth Debicki (The Man From U.N.C.L.E. , The Night Manager) is in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 as Ayesha, one of the villains in the upcoming film. Yesterday during the Super Bowl, we got a first look at the character in the Guardians Of The Galaxy T.V. spot.
The film is three months away, so finally we’re getting to see what Ayesha looks like in the film, and some news on exactly how Ayesha fits into the plot; thanks to Collider and Comic Book!
Collider had revealed that the film will begin with the Sovereign, whom Ayesha is apart of, asking the Guardians to perform a task for them in order to get Nebula back. When Ayesha and rest of the Sovereign learn that Rocket has taken something from them, she will team up with Taserface in hopes to get the items back and maybe cause a bit of harm to the Guardians.
Kevin Feige had this to say about Ayesha and what Rocket took:
“She’s the one who hires the Ravagers to go after Quill because, and this is sort of a spoiler, so you should be a little careful about it, after the opening that I already described where they’re paid to protect these super-duper expensive batteries that run the entire Sovereign planet, they’re walking away,” Feige said. “They’ve defeated the monster, they’re heading back to their ship, and Rocket reveals to Drax that he’s stolen like three of these batteries, because they’re really expensive and they’re not going to notice and ‘Who cares?’
It’s understandable to be upset that someone took the energy source that keeps your planet running! So maybe Ayesha isn’t truly a villain, but an antagonist to the Guardians. Hopefully, her need for justice won’t get any of the Guardians killed!
Feige also went on to say that in general the Sovereign are a bunch of dicks:
“They’re very pompous, and they’re gold and they’re easily offended, which we’re also told early in this sequence, and that there’s a very particular way you need to deal with them, and you need to speak with them and you need to be delicate, which is not easy for the Guardians, and certainly not easy when Rocket reveals that he’s snagged these things right out from under them, and that creates a bit of strife for them as the Sovereign end up chasing after them, less because they want those three batteries back, but more because how dare they insult the great Sovereign people.”
Elizabeth’s character from The Man From U.N.C.L.E is very similar to the description of the Sovereign minus being made of gold literally. She was a rich, pompous, villain with a pretty cool fashion sense. So it’s no surprise, Elizabeth is playing a villain in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Maybe, she’ll stick around long enough to team up with The Night Manager co-star, Tom Hiddleston A.K.A Loki.
