Fox’s untitled X-Men series has added Amy Acker (Angel, Person of Interest) to its growing cast, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. Acker will play the show’s female lead, while Percy Hynes White and Emma Dumont have also been added to the cast.
The hour-long drama follows the Stewart family, who are on the run from the government in an effort to protect their mutant children. Along the way, they meet up with an underground network of mutants. Acker will play the Stewart matriarch, who is dealing with the fallout from her separation as well as the changes in her mutant children. She will join the previously named cast that includes Stephen Moyer, Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, and Blair Redford.
Acker was largely known for her roles in the Joss Whedon television universe, mainly as Fred/Illyria in Angel, before taking on a regular role on CBS’ recently-concluded Person of Interest. She also made a brief stop in the Marvel universe, guest starring in an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Audrey Nathan, Phil Coulson’s former love interest.
Dumont will play Lorna Dane, better known to X-Men fans as Polaris. Polaris debuted in 1968’s The X-Men #49 and has been a member of both the X-Men and X-Factor. Polaris utilizes magnetic powers, similar to Magneto, who she ultimately learned is her father in 2003’s Uncanny X-Men #431.
White will play a young loner named Andy, who mainly keeps to himself to avoid the escalating conflicts at school and at home.
Fox’s untitled X-Men drama’s pilot will be directed by long-time X-movie director Bryan Singer. The showrunner is Matt Nix, who will serve as executive producer along with Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory, Jeph Loeb, and Lauren Shuler Donner.
