Secret Empire: Uprising One-Shot Announced

Hello there True Believers. With Secret Empire on the horizon, Marvel has announced one the many tie-ins for said event. This one is a one-shot titled Secret Empire: Uprising. Since Steve Rogers will have outed himself as evil, it is understandable that his close friends will want to stop him. In this case, it is his long time friend and former spy, Natasha Romanov a.k.a. Black Widow. However, she won’t be alone. She will be recruiting a team of young heroes to aid her in this quest. They include Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Hulk (Amadeus Cho), Falcon (Joaquin Torres), Wasp (Nadia Pym), Ironheart and Viv.

Secret Empire: Uprising will be released in June, to coincide with the release of Secret Empire #3. When speaking to CBR.com about the issue, Marvel Editor Alanna Smith had this to say:

“The way we’re building the one-shots for ‘Secret Empire’ is that these are integral to the main story… …So when you read ‘Secret Empire’ #3, you’ll see the jumping off point where ‘Uprising’ starts. You can go right from #3 to ‘Uprising,’ and then ‘Uprising’ tees up events that will happen later in the series. It’s really a critical part of reading this event.”

The one-shot will be written by Derek Landry (Civil War II: Choosing Sides, Skulduggery Pleasant series), with art by J. Cassara (The Troop). Also, the cover is done by Meghan Hetrick (Uncanny Avengers, Faith). Writer Mr. Landry also spoke to CBR.com. He had this to say about the story:

“They are really in the deep end here… …They’re given an assignment that’s the complete opposite of the espionage, spy work and black ops they’re expecting because they’re being trained by the master of all those disciplines, the Black Widow. So essentially they have to take what she’s teaching them and apply it to a most unusual situation where they don’t quite get to be as cool as James Bond, but they struggle on.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really interested by this concept and line-up. This is a very unique group of heroes, and Natasha trying to train young heroes sounds good to me. What do you guys think? Will you be picking up the one shot? What do you think Natasha’s plan is? Let us know in the comments below
