We’re 3 months out from The Defenders, the culmination of Netflix’s MarvelFlix Phase One. The 13 episode series features Matt Murdock’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Danny Rand. While fans can still catch up (all 4 Defenders have seasons up on Netflix) much about The Defenders remains a mystery from Sigourney Weaver’s villain to the final motivations of the hand. When last we left Danny Rand he was dealing with K’un Lun being destroyed. When last we left Jessica she was investigating her connection to her powers. When last we left Luke he was settling into the uneasy role of being a super hero and when last we left Matt Murdock in season 2 he was dealing with Elektra being killed – and potentially brought back as the mysterious “black sky” weapon.
The Defenders dropped a trailer today that confirmed at least one of these things might have a conclusion – albeit not the happy conclusion that Matt Murdock was hoping for. Today The Defenders released a short gif of Elektra’s coffin and what looks like them pouring blood into it?

Could that be the secret to the return of Elektra, Harold Meachum, and the root of the powers that be? Are we seeing the Hand introduce vampires to the MCU? That’s contingent on that being blood of course but wow if that’s the case that’s some kind of scary. If someone’s pouring blood into Elektra’s coffin, or whatever they’re doing – her return can’t be good. Does this hint at an adversarial role? Just what’s going on with Elektra’s so called beauty sleep? We say beauty sleep since that’s what star Elodie Yung called it.
