Alice Braga has joined Fox and Marvel’s New Mutants replacing Rosario Dawson. The reason is currently unknown as to why Dawson has exited the project. Braga will now play Dr. Cecilia Reyes who is a medical doctor with the power to create a protective bio-field around her. The actress is best known for her work on Queen of The South, I Am Legend, and Elysium. The news come via The Hollywood Reporter.
We’re sad to see Dawson exit the project, but thankful Fox was able to find a new actress as soon as possible! Plus, we will see Dawson again in the MCU soon enough. She’ll be reprising her role as Claire Temple in The Defenders this August.
The New Mutants is co-written by Josh Boone and Knate Lee. Boone will also serve as the director for the film. Production is set to begin in July of this year in Boston. The film also stars Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones), Anna Taylor-Joy (Split and The Witch), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why), and Blu Hunt, who is a newcomer, in the leading roles.
