Marvel Games unveiled its first virtual reality game at this year’s D23 Expo, the Oculus-exclusive Marvel: Powers United VR. The original trailer showed off footage of Captain Marvel, The Hulk, and Rocket Raccoon. With Oculus looking to put together a four-player demo for San Diego Comic-Con, a fourth hero is clearly needed. On Wednesday morning, that fourth hero was revealed to be Deadpool.
The announcement post on the Oculus website promises to give players full reign over Deadpool’s twin pistols and katanas. It also teases a full barrage of verbal jabs from The Merc with the Mouth, noting that players can “crack wise and crack skulls.” Deadpool’s inclusion is noteworthy, given how focused Marvel gaming properties have been on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This opens the door for the rest of Marvel’s heroic pantheon to potentially join the fun, including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
Those looking to give the virtual reality action game a try can find Marvel: Powers United VR at the Marvel booth. Four players will team up to face Ronan the Accuser, with the aid of the Inhumans’ Lockjaw and his teleporting abilities.
Marvel: Powers United VR is a joint effort between Oculus Studios and Sanzaru Games, makers of Tron Run/r, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice. There is no release date set at this time.
